Ash Wednesday/ Lent

Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, the first day in the observence of Lent which is the 40 days proceding Easter. During this time some people choose to fast or give up something they enjoy in honor of Easter. Jesus Christ gave up his life, died on the cross, and three days later rose from the grave defeating death. His ultimate sacrifice was done so that none should perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life"-John 5:24

So that leads me to ask, what will I fast from during this time? Everything seems so small in light of the Great Sacrifice. Certain foods? Certain TV shows/movies? my sleep time-getting up early to read the Word? loving somebody like Jesus would even though its easier to just ignore them?

It won't be the same for everyone. Some may not wish to do anything at all, but just honor and love Jesus in their hearts. whatever the case, i hope we can all take this time to be greatful and worship Him who loved and gave his life for us!

Beautifully put, Lani. I personally like to add to Lent observance by putting in special Bible reading/study time. This year at Covenant, Pastor Paul has encouraged us to follow the leadings of Christ thru the Holy Spirit with JOY! To make each and every day leading up to the Easter celebration one of joy. Interesting idea isn't it?
