PJ Carlesimo, who for 5 seasons worked as an assistant coach to Popovich, has been hired by Seattle Super Sonics for their head coach position.
so this makes at least 3 NBA teams with coaching ties to San Antonio: Dallas Mavericks (coach Avery Johnson former Spurs player), Cleveland Cavaliers (coach Mike Brown assistant to Pops for 3 years), and now Seattle with PJ.
i know this kind of stuff happens all the time where coaches go from team to team...it just seems unfair that they learn the "secrets" of one team only to use it against that said team when they switch. there should be a rule or something about that! but then again, this also helps keep things interesting between teams. just look at Mark Cubin (Dallas)-Don Nelson(Golden State) situation. Cubin claims Nelson used hidden information in order to beat them in the playoffs since Nellie was a Dallas coach for many seasons and knew the players and their habits.
at any rate, i liked PJ even for the short time i saw him in action. i wish him all the best.
on a good note however, the Spurs roster will be back in tact for next season with everyone returning. back-to-back titles, here we come!!! :)
