first prenatal visit

today was the first baby appointment. after discussing some things with the doctor i had an ultrasound done and we could SEE THE HEART BEATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was very very very cool. definatly makes the baby real and not just a dream! i go back in a month and she said that by that time we'll be able to hear the heartbeat. i cant wait!

a few things though-

1) i now have to check my bloodsugar 4 times a day. i am to stay on the Glucophage and log what my numbers are. if they are high than at the next dr. apt she will prob refer me to a high-risk pregnancy doctor and i'll be put on insulin as well as a special diet. she said that because the number was high on my last bloodwork and that was even taking the diabetic drug that she can basically skip the normal glucose test they give all pregnant women because she knows i already have an insulin problem. so i went to the store tonight and bought myself a meter, test strips, the whole thing.

2) i am now going to take only one of my blood pressure pills, not both. the one i'm stopping is a lower dose and wasnt really helping so i'm to stay on the higher dose one. then because of a greater chance of developing preeclampsia (great description of that here )later in the pregnancy she is making me do a 24 hour pee test (you collect pee in this big jug for 24 hours and return it to the lab) to see how much protein is in my urine now so she can use it for a benchmark for later on.

3) i asked her about a healthy weight gain since i'm already "pleasantly plump"...she said 15lbs gain would be good. i'm just hoping thats all it will be! though my best friend lost weight when she was pregnant, so maybe i'll do that too! and my dad said my mom didnt gain alot either..so hopefully its in the genes :)

4) i am to keep taking the iron twice a day, and she also gave me the prenatal vitamins to take too.

5) when i told her about having Strep B she said they will check that through the urine halfway through the pregnancy and then again as its closer to delivery.\

6) i told her i was worried about miscarriage. she said with PCOS the worry is more about being able to get pregnant. now that i'm actually pregnant, 6 weeks, chances for miscarriage are less. still...i'm gonna be safe no matter what.

7) due date at this point is 6/29/08

thats about all. we go back in a month.
