today was my 5th Ob apt. and true to what my doctor had predicted back at the first appointment, i am now being classified as "high risk" and am being referred to a high risk pregnancy doctor (offically called maternal-fetal specialists, or perinatologists). the reason for this is because of my blood sugar numbers. this is the time frame that they test for gestational diabetes, and since i'm already showing signs while even taking the diabetes medication (meaning the pills i've been on are not working as strong anymore), i'll have to start taking insulin. another reason for the high risk is because of the blood pressure medication i've been taking. the doctor said that can also influence the baby's growth. so the specialist doctor will do more testing and ultrasounds and keep a close eye to make sure the baby is growing properly. both doctors will be in touch with eachother so each knows whats going on.
i'm on 2 week schedule now since i'm in my last trimester, so i go back to the regular OB on march 26. and from what i understand the last month i'll be going weekly. i'm not sure how often i'll have to see the specialist, i'm sure i'll find out more whenever my first apt is with her. my Ob wanted to get me in as soon as possible with her, and they have to call and set that up as a referal, so hopefully i'll hear something tomorrow.
