perinatal diabetes update

so wednesday i attended the gestational diabetes class at the high risk pregnancy doctor's office. turns out that out of the 6 of us that were there only 2 had true gestational diabetes, the rest of us had some sort of preliminary diabetes stuff going on. anyway, the nurse went over a new eating plan than what i was on (this is more strict) and gave out a blood meter that is different than the one i have been using. i have to use this other kind because the doctor can download the numbers direct to their computer and run different reports. its nice cause i dont have to remember to write it down every day like i had to before! anyway, the nurse went over my numbers and was on the verge of giving me the insulin but decided to wait a week and see how i did with the new diet and the oral meds i'm already taking. if next week my numbers are still boarderline than they are going to put me on insulin. so we'll have to wait and see.

so i go back next wednesday and at that time they will do an ultrasound to measure the baby's growth. they will do one every 4 weeks. as far as how often i'll have to see them, she said it depends on how my numbers are doing. the longest they let a patient go is 2 weeks between appts. eventually she said i'll get to the point where it will be weekly and they will also do routine non-stress tests on the baby too at that time.
