i've been a big fan of The Biggest Loser since season 1. then when i heard about Jillian's new show, Losing It With Jillian, i was very excited. part of me would love to have her move into my home and motivate me, but the other part would be like No Way!
anyway, i watched her shows and was impressed. mainly with they way she dealt with the personal issues affecting these people. i know for myself that i am an emotional eater. mainly a stress eater.
but i digress... there was one scene where Jillian was explaining to a kid the difference between wheat flour and white flour. now, i've been on enough diets in my life that i'm aware of the concept of whole grains. but for some reason this time it really stuck. in explaining to the kid she basically said hey, what does that bag of white flour say- enriched- and what does that mean?- that all the good stuff has been taken out and the company is putting certain things back in.
DOH!
since that moment, i have cleared out my pantry of white stuff. we are a whole wheat family now. pasta. rice. cereal. bread. flour. i have made a batch of cookies and a batch of biscotti using half white and half wheat flour. (i gotta get more ideas on how to use full wheat when baking sweets-if anyone has any good recipes, please share!)
i have also increased my gym activity and overall exercise level. i'm already seeing results in my body, and between that and the healthy eating i'm hoping to be feeling really good soon.
so, thanks Jillian.
by the way, i think my next baking endeaver will be these healthy brownies, ala Jillian. see here.

Really interesting! Reducing sugar intake is another key for weight loss and overall health. Ian lost two inches around his waist by not having as much sugar in addition to exercising. Soft drinks in particular are just empty calories. Even things like tomato sauce and other processed foods can contain lots of sugar. Agave syrup, splenda, honey (in small amounts) are great alternatives for sweetening for baking and beverages!
oh ya, reducing sugar is key. esp since i am insulin resistant too. i try to watch sugar intake regardless. i havent tried using agave syrup in stuff though (i'm a big fan of splenda) but i will have to soon!
