10 things we've done for cheap this summer:
1) library. obviously a no-brainer that things are free. and up to 5 dvd's at a time. (hooray for a big selection of kids dvd's!)
2) .99/$1 store. the Dollar Tree has always been a favorite of mine. in fact, its about one of the few places to go to get Vanilla Wafers for cheap (why the grocery stores charge almost $3 for a box is beyond me..) as well as other kid snacks. a store called the 99 Cent store just opened up nearby. and i gotta say, i'm impressed. they even had a Dragon Tales vhs tape that we didn't have! and that was only .50. i'm a loyal customer now!
3) redbox. $1 dvd rental? count me in.
4) $1 menu options at various fast food places. and lets hope the $1 large drinks at McDonalds keep going
5) a season pass to Sea World. ok, this isnt necessarly cheap to begin with, BUT there is a budget plan so that for a 1 year pass its only $6/month taken out of your bank account. sure beats paying what $70 something upfront. just skip 1 starbucks each month (gasp! did i really say that?! ) and use that $ for the pass. and then have all the fun you want at Sea World with the whole family. it has been a life savor this summer for us.
6) walking around the mall. the best part is that its air conditioned. and you can get some exercise. and that the food court has free samples (usually the chinese booth). caitlin is a big fan of the sesame chicken sample guy.
7) playgrounds. we are blessed to have a nice playground not too far from us. unfortunatly its been soo hot that caitlin hasnt had much chance to play this summer cause the sun practically melts the plastic slide. but we'll be back in the fall for sure.
8) McDonalds, Chick-Fil-A indoor play areas. caitlin is still too small to really play on those, but she sure gets a kick out of watching all the other kids. and i get a kick out of being in the air condition with a cold beverage.
9) Opa and Mamaw's house. (my parents). not only do i enjoy just chatting and visiting with them, and the fact that they have a pool, and the fact that they have cable tv, and the fact that they have a cat, and the fact they have good air conditioning, and the fact that they have great neighbors, but Mamaw also makes delicious food and caitlin just loves loves loves her Opa.
10) Costco/SAMS. what better place to go to thats indoors, provides free food (samples anyone?), and lets you dream and drool over all the things you never thought you needed until you see it there?

i was just going to mention costco. haha and then i saw it at the bottom. fun stuff!
thanks natalie :) how would we function without Costco??
a lot of museums, at least in DC, are free, too. for discounts etc., you might want to check out livingsocial.com (and enter your city) or groupon. They often have daily deals -- usually for spa stuff and whatnot, but you might come across something good once in awhile!
thanks laura! i havent checked out livingsocial. i'll have to do that! but i do have a groupon notice daily and have gotten a few good things from that.
