i know in my Spurs posts i use the phrase "we" alot when referring to the team. a friend of mine askes me if i'm part of the team (love ya Jen!) and while i wish that was the case i'm afraid it isnt. boohoo.
not only are they a great team on the court, but off the court as well with lots of community outreach and role modelship. coach Pops puts alot of emphasis on family. they give back to the city in more ways than just basketball, and thats why we love our Spurs.
the city is there for the team, and the team is there for the city. so its only natural that "we" love "our" Spurs :)

ESPN The Magazine
Since the debut of the Ultimate Standings in 2003, in which SportsNation feedback ranks every pro franchise in MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL, the San Antonio Spurs have been a fixture among the top teams in sports based on what they give back to fans who invest their time and money in the organization. In fact, they have never finished below No. 3 in the overall rankings. Props are due to a Duncan-Ginobili-Parker squad that works as hard at community service as winning rings, and to Coach Pop, who doubles as VP of B-ball Ops and has kept payroll ($66M this year) near the league average. The cog too often overlooked: owner Peter Holt , a Silver Star and Purple Heart winning Vietnam vet and Caterpillar tractor dealer who has beaten alcoholism and kept the Spurs a perennial winner in the NBA's third-smallest market. So, once again: Nice job, Pete.
this years top 5 rankings:
1. Buffalo Sabres
2. San Antonio Spurs
3. Dallas Mavericks
4. Indianapolis Colts
5. Detroit Pistons
