today i had an apt with Dr.Webb. a few weeks ago i did a saliva test for him (you collect your saliva on prepared cotton swabs at specific times during the day) to see my adrenal funtion. the results showed that i have adrenal fatigue. to read more about adrenal fatigue click here. its very interesting. what happened is that my adrenals were functioning at a very high level for so long that they actually burned out, and now they are fatigued and not working properly. this explains several things: weight gain and insulin resistance from them being on chronic overdrive (too much cortosil can cause weightgain, weightgain influences insulin resistance), and now that the adrenals are shot it explains the chronic inflammation of my right foot that i've even had 4 cortisone steroid shots to help it (whereas if the adrenals were working properly my body could heal itslef), general tiredness and hard to get out of bed in the morning, low sex drive, and other stuff. the weblink above has alot of good information, i encourage you to check it out !! (i do not use the products listed there. i just thought the information was good.)
the treatment plan i'm on puts alot of emphasis on dealing with the anemia, and now the adrenals. geeze, i won't know what to do with myself when i'm all healthy and energized again. you get so used to feeling the way you do that its just normal, know what i mean? so i'm looking forward to getting back to healthy!
forgot to add that Dr.Webb was impressed with the questions i was asking him about the adrenal/cortisol stuff...he asked me what i studied in school. i told him psychology/sociology and then also told him about my studies with the medical stuff...he said his own insurance lady may be interested in some help, he would pass along my info. cool! :)

Please be careful, Im a bit distressed that he diagnosed you with "Adrenal Fatigue". According to several government and hospital websites, like here: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/adrenal-fatigue/AN01583
Adrenal Fatigue is not about your adrenal functions failing, its simply a group of symptoms, and not a disease. The reason I'm a bit distressed about it, is that it seems that Dr. Webb is diagnosing you with a set of symptoms. I'm wondering why he didn't do a blood test to check for Addison's disease, or other known adrenal related diseases. Of course, I'm no doctor and have no formal education. Just be careful and use common sense. The important thing is that you get well.
i appreciate your concern. but as you said this is just one group of symptoms, not the final diagnosis. there are several systems out of whack with me and its all about finding a healthy balance and getting my body to function as it should. i've felt crappy for a long time (we're talking years), its just nice to finally know some reasons why. thats been the most frustrating part. the doctors i've been to say "oh, take this drug, or here-have this shot, it will fix it." well, thats all fine and dandy, but if you dont get to the root of WHY that problem/symptom existed then you can never treat the underlying cause. thats what Webb does..treat the underlying cause. He knows what he's talking about, and i trust him.
btw:how do i edit a comment without having to delete and post a new one?! i'm still trying to figure out this blogging thing! :)
