from mother to "grandmother"

this morning after getting Sweetie out of her nest box i noticed a strange looking egg sitting upfront of the box. i had never seen one like this. then i realized exactly what it was= fertile!!!
there are blue veins appearing on it and upon closer inspection there is definatly something inside it. (to check and see if an egg is fertile you "candle" it...hold it up to a little light and every other time we've done this you can see an air bubble..not this time!) the sad thing is that the egg was very cold. Sweetie has a total of 9 eggs she's been sitting on for a couple months. we were having a problem of her continuilly laying, so we've just kept all the eggs in there. obviously she cant sit on all 9 at once so some eggs are just in the open. sooner or later, at least in the past, her natural instinct kicks in and she realizes they are dud eggs and she stops sitting on her nest. perhaps this egg is why she wouldnt?! i really dont know. i'm afraid though that this fertile egg may no longer hold a little one since it was cold. but i dont want to remove it because that will trigger her to lay more. so i guess only time will tell! what an amazing Thanksgiving find!
