Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden. She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming= Babycenter
today was my 2nd OB visit and we got to hear the heartbeat! sounded like a dog panting, so fast! in the midst of the doctor searching for the baby i learned why i've been having such bad pains on my left side. the doctor started on the right side of the uterous, then to the middle, then to the left, then back to the middle all searching for the heartbeat. i was getting worried. then she went farther over on the left side and whola=heartbeat! turns out the baby is hanging out on the far left side....right where my pains were! doctor said my uterous may be slightly tilted, too.
but now i know and not losing my mind over those pains!
doctor also reviewed my blood sugar numbers and i've been put on a restricted diabetic diet and i'm still to take the Metformin as i've been doing. i will also have to go to a diabetes educational class to learn how to handle this. Dr.Shows thinks that for now modifiying the diet will work, but theres a likely chance i'll still need to be put on insulin before its all said and done. she said women are checked for gestational diabetes around the 24th week..but with my case i'm already "pre-gestational-diabetic".
next month when i go back they will do more screeing blood work. and then in February will be the next ultrasound where we'll find out the gender of the baby. so mark your calendar for February 11 :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!
I was daydreaming at work and thought I'd look in on your blog, first time since Feb, so pregnancy news is headlining! Sorry to be 11 weeks (give or take 4) to offer congrats.
E had similar symptoms that led to bed rest midway through both pregnancies; high blood pressure, urine protein, etc. It seemed like she needed some Mn or Mg solution during labor to mitigate the efects of pregnancy hypertension. Your OB catching pre-diabetic symptoms this early is a good sign that he/she is on top of it.
In any case, I'm sure that all of your challenges will be worth it... the path you are traveling is well known by your OB and you'll do great.
Best Wishes, jerm
