normally my fasting numbers were between 90-105. doctor wanted them under 95. thats why she switched medications. my numbers after b'fast were usually 95-105, which is in the under 120 range that she wanted, so those were good.
well, i took the first dose of Glyburide last night. this morning my fasting number was 67!!!! talk about quick acting. my after b'fast number was 76!!!
this new drug acts in a different way on the body than the Metformin did, and the numbers don't lie! you just have to be real careful not to let your blood sugar drop too low on this stuff. so i have to be diligent about eating the diabetic diet that the nutritionist put me on last month. my problem is i tend to skip the little snack/meals, so i need to be very careful not to do that!
the only thing is that according to the precautions, this medicine should be stopped at least 2 weeks before going into labor because there is a risk the baby could have too low blood sugar. its safe to be on insulin for the baby, so perhaps thats the reason the dr. said i'd prob end up on insulin anyway. wont really know for sure until week 24-26 when the numbers usually spike for gestational diabetes.
so for now i'll stick to the wonder drug! :)
