What I'm Doing...

i have had several people ask me what i'm doing for work these days. so, what better place to speak of it than here on my blog? :)

as most people know, i left the vet job back in april. it was a great job, but there were some personal things that required my full attention and i needed to take care of those. meanwhile chris was working as a courrier delivering prescription medications to homebound and nursing home hospice patients. he liked the job, but for all the work he was putting into it the pay wasn't cutting it and we were getting VERY close to nothing in the bank account. we were (still are) leaning on God for His provision like we never had before.

well, last week, after hearing that West was hiring, Chris went in and applied. He was practically given employment confirmation the same day. He came home, told me what they were hiring for, and i went in the next day and came out with a job too. we were both finally employed full time and with a good paying job! yay!! training started yesterday and lasts for 3 weeks from 330-1130pm. once that is over we will be working the shifts we signed up for: i will be M, T, Th, F, Sat from 7-330. chris will be M, T, W, F, Sat from 1-930. this way we can each be home one day during the week to watch caitlin and chris can be there when she wakes up and i will be there to put her to bed. we will have sundays for family time.

so what exactly is our job? glad you asked...West is a call-center that has several different clients. we will be working for a company called Prescription Solutions which is a mail-order pharmacy. we will be taking inbound calls from people who are wanting either brand new prescriptions or refill prescriptions and processing those orders. no selling-which i am very happy about!! most of the clients will be Medicare enrollees.

our training includes learning the computer system (of course), learning pharmaceutical conceps (medications brand and generics, dosages, etc..), Medicare/Medicaid coverages and benefits, other health insurance policies/plans, and more stuff which i don't know yet ;) whats cool though is that because of my medical coding and billing classes from several years ago, plus working at the vet and filling prescriptions there and talking about medical stuff, i already know alot of the basics so that is quite helpful. and chris, because of his most recent job, is already familiar with some of the medications, too. oh, and another cool thing is that the parent company that owns Prescription Solutions is United Health Group..and about 4 years ago i worked for United Health Group doing pre-authorizations. (i lasted 2 weeks...but thats another story). anyway, i just think its neat how things are finally coming full circle.

anyway, i am excited about this job. so is chris. and this is the first time we have ever worked for the same company doing the same thing, so its nice if we ever have questions we have eachother to ask and support!!

the major stress i was having about everything was finding someone to watch caitlin while we wre in training. not everyone wants to stay up till midnight, you know? well, one of the HR people at West actually referred us to someone who used to work there and was a personal friend to this lady and did babysitting. she gave us a call and long story short she has been watching caitlin the past two nights and will for as long as we ask. she has 4 kids of her own-2 boys ages 5 and 8 (i think) and 2 girls 12 and 14. well, we knew it was a good match when the first thing caitlin saw walking into her house was Diesel 10 train to play with as well as other Thomas toys and some dinosaurs. match made in heaven :) apparently caitlin has been very well behaved and LOVES playing with the boys. thatta girl!

so that's what i am doing. well, that and a bunch of dental work. my oral surgery from last week seems to be healing well from what i can tell. i return this week to the dentist for the official verdict.

feel free to ask any other questions!
