Lab results

so the lab results from yesterday showed some good stuff as well as some questionable stuff...

lets start with the good news.. taking the iron pills twice a day is making a difference in my red blood cells. i knew it was cause of my energy level increasing. but the numbers don't lie---
my hemoglobin (amt of oxygen in the blood) was 10.9 a month ago. now its 11.7! (its still a little low, but definatly much better). all the other rbc counts were better than a month ago, though 3 of them are still in the "abnormal" range. after a few months i think it will all even out, at least i hope!

the tests that concerned the doctor deal with the liver:

1) ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE,SERUM-An alkaline phosphatase (ALP) test measures the amount of the enzyme ALP in the blood. ALP is made mostly in the liver and in bone with some made in the intestines and kidneys. It also is made by the placenta of a pregnant woman. An increased level of alkaline phosphatase (AP) may indicate blockage of bile ducts.
normal range: 32-108
my result: 140

2) AST-An aspartate aminotransferase (AST) test measures the amount of this enzyme in the blood. AST is normally found in red blood cells, liver, heart, muscle tissue, pancreas, and kidneys. AST formerly was called serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT).
Low levels of AST are normally found in the blood. When body tissue or an organ such as the heart or liver is diseased or damaged, additional AST is released into the bloodstream. The amount of AST in the blood is directly related to the extent of the tissue damage. After severe damage, AST levels rise in 6 to 10 hours and remain high for about 4 days.
normal range: 0-38
my result: 44

3)ALT-An alanine aminotransferase (ALT) test measures the amount of this enzyme in the blood. ALT is found mainly in the liver, but also in smaller amounts in the kidneys, heart, muscles, and pancreas. ALT formerly was called serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT).
ALT is measured to see if the liver is damaged or diseased. Low levels of ALT are normally found in the blood. However, when the liver is damaged or diseased, it releases ALT into the bloodstream, which makes ALT levels go up. Most increases in ALT levels are caused by liver damage. The ALT test is often done along with other tests that check for liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and bilirubin. Both ALT and AST levels are reliable tests for liver damage.
normal range: 0-35
my result: 46

the thing is is that several factors can influence this reading, one of them being other medications you take. i asked the dr at the medclinic about it, based on the drugs i currently take, and she said none of them would effect the liver. thats why she wants me to see my regular dr who can investigate further. i have an apt for next week set up.

just when i think i'm on the right track and feeling better something like this comes along!
