Virtual Reality

i saw this headline on Yahoo! news:

Virtual dress turned reality
The top designer will have her dress made by retail giant H&M.

http://fashionrunway.sims.yahoo.com/

it brought back a discussion me and chris had several weeks ago after seeing a thing on TV about people making and spending money in the virtual world of video games.

seems that very rich people, or at least those who have the money to do so, go online and buy clothes or homes or sexual fantasies or extra characters or extra powers or whatever for their virtual character using REAL money! one guy re-financed his actual home so he could have enough money to spend to set up a virtual disco and vacation spot online. its one thing if you really are fortunate enough to have extra money lying around that can be spent on fake things, but when you are not that rich and have to refinance your own home...well, thats just crazy! needless to say i now have something else to add to my "soapbox"...if you don't believe me, ask chris...poor guy had to hear all my rantings on that.

anyway, turns out that in the virtual world of the Sims there was a fashion contest. the winner will actually have their dress manufactured by the store H&M and sold in the real world. at least in this circumstance real people will get to wear this clothing and benefit from this womans creativity without having to go online.

If you are willing to feel pity on me, please send me an e-mail for donation directions to the "Poor Chris Needs a New Motorcycle Fund."

FYI: we're still not talking about online gaming, much less World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI and other MMORPG's or the fact that I spent Saturday night at a LAN party playing Battlefield 2.

Guess I'll be using some of my down time to go play Unreal Tournament online today.

Again, please send me an e-mail for donation directions to the "Poor Chris Needs a New Motorcycle Fund."
